Jannik Sinner Turns the Page at the US Open

In capturing his 2nd major of his career and putting a bow on his already outstanding 2024, Jannik Sinner learned to dance amid the chaos surrounding him and emphatically emerged victorious from a field that seemed to be running on fumes at the close of this 2024 major season.

Basically, Sinner started the year as the best tennis player in the world and finished it in the same fashion!

What a strange tournament this has been. The Olympics seem to have depleted the main competition for Jannik. Of course, there's also the issue of his alleged accidental doping, which complicates things further. Additionally, the ATP seems to be giving him a lot of preferential treatment simply because he’s ranked number one.

The situation with the trace amounts of doping in his system highlights a broader issue with how drugs are processed in the body. I used to play basketball, and we had a player who used banned substances due to health reasons. Once a drug enters the body, it begins to be metabolized and eliminated over time. This means that Jannik could have taken the substance either after or even before the Australian Open to enhance his performance and only showed up with traces of it at Indian Wells.

I’m not making any accusations about whether he did or didn’t use banned substances. However, it’s worth noting that having an explanation ready so quickly can raise questions.

It was an abysmal US Open on so many levels. The lack of interesting star power due to Olympic hangover, Sinner’s tedious playing style and the way he was given special treatment is atrocious. There is nothing to celebrate here.
