Adapted by Irving Caesar in 1929 from an Australian Tango, "Schöner Gigolo, armer Gigolo," composed in 1928 by Leonello Casucci to lyrics written in 1924 by Julius Brammer.
In 1956, Louis Prima joined the song with "I Ain't Got Nobody," and it became a popular hit song.
In 1978, the Village People did a cover and in 1985, by David Lee Roth.
It has been covered by numerous artists, both in the original version and the paired version.
