WHY SHOULD I VISIT SALALAH?
Lush green oases, soaring clifftops, mesmerising waterfalls, palm-tree lined white sand beaches and a cool climate during the otherwise hot Arabic summer. These are all aspects of the coastal city of Salalah in Oman that you will love!

After some careful research, we visited its best natural landmarks: some of which are difficult to find and others which are more well-known. I’ll cover them all in these 2 videos! One thing you won’t miss are the multiple herds of camels which roam freely and will stare you down as you drive past them on THEIR road!

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT SALALAH?
In short: all year round! Salalah has two seasons: Winter and Khareef. Winter tends to be mild, yet sunny and with less water. Khareef is booming with abundant waterfalls, haunting fog and greenery! If you’re living in the Middle East and keen to escape the hot July and August months, this is the perfect place to be. For photographers, you’ll get clear sunny shots in the Winter season and iconic mountains-shrouded-in-mist pictures during Khareef.

We were surprised to find that even in the winter which is known for being dry, we still found many stunning waterfalls and lakes! Stay tuned for part 2 where I will show you some of these!

WHERE IS SALALAH?
Salalah is a 2-3 hour flight from most middle eastern cities, making it a fantastic weekend trip away. It is located on the southern coast of Oman, overlooking the Arabian Sea.

WHAT TRANSPORT IS AVAILABLE TO SALALAH’S BEST ATTRACTIONS?
It’s possible to arrange day trip excursions to many of these sites and most hotels will offer these or have a tourist desk. However, I’d highly recommend renting a car for a more authentic (DIY!) and flexible experience. There is always a friendly face ready to help you out (except at the desolate and remote ‘abandoned ship’ location!). Additionally, finding taxis in the evening can be a challenge so having your own wheels can come in handy, especially if you plan to see the night souq.

HOT TIP:
For a weekend trip, plan to spend one day exploring the sites west of Salalah main city, and the next day exploring north/east.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
With gorgeous beach resorts, a booming night market and more natural beauty than you could imagine, don’t leave Salalah off of your bucket list!

Here is our first day exploring Salalah. These attractions are located on the western side of Salalah and in part 2 I’ll show you the north/east.
