Hi. Just to correct the Spanish word. It is actually " M A T A N Z A ". Nowadays is a word still used because it makes reference to the custom of the Spanish villeages of slaughtering the pigs at the begining of winter. "La matanza del cerdo" it was a popular family event in Castile, although somehow it has lost some popularity due to the enforcement of some animal protection and sanitary regulations.

The longhorns that became Texas longhorns were hybrid cattle of iberian- called corriente cattle modern term- crossed with draft oxen-mostly european, and milking breeds like Jersey that were all released during the Civil War and reconstruction by abandon ranches. Otherwise longhorns would have occupied.mezico, a) the way into South America. Most ranches South of Texas Arizona had Corriente cattle, a much slighter breed in horn size as well as body.

The Jamaica Creole cattle looked just like your Texas Longhorns. The breed lasted from 1510-1948 the British introduced their cattle which took out Spanish Jamaican cattle. We also had a Spanish horse and sheep. New Seville on the North Coast of the island they found a Spanish site A slaughterhouse 1510 cow bones found DNA test over 500 years old Andalusian bloodline. Yes we also had vaqueros before Mexico.
