Since Caf Urbos 3 cracks discovered, on L1 Dulwich Hill line Alstom Citadis X05 began service on that line, replacing cracked trams. This video shows you a rare sight when Alstom Citadis X05 going 72 km/h! They used to never run that fast like that before… Only singe section, where trams sometimes can run up to 70 km/h is Taverners Hill—Marion (Central direction only). But usually trams running there around 60 km/h. I asked 2 drivers to give a full power acceleration and they did pretty well!

One of the only times i've ever heard a Citadis at speed. Love it. Usually slower systems opt for Alstom trams, so you never heard or feel them going at their top speeds. They are very capable trams and I hope more cities see that potential.

It's incredible shooting off along the 2013 extension. My favourite part has to be the tunnel at Leichhardt North.

That’s pretty fast for a tram, also you just reached 200 subs milestone! I think those scrapyard videos have made your subscribers skyrocket.

We are also getting a Citadis X05 in Frankfurt, and the car is in test operation at the moment. The first X05s will be in service in Frankfurt from Dezember

In Nice, France (my city) our tram line 2 goes underground near the city center and reach 75 km/h on the tunnels. I love to record it because i rarely take it. They do the exact same sound as there are Alstom 405.

We also have these trams in Athens but they don't have the same sounds

This is probably faster than the North Shore line through Wollstonecraft.

They used to do a good turn in the Glebe tunnel and just to the west of Lilyfield. Oh, how things have gone south.

All modern trams are typically capable of 80 km/h or more but the maximum speed on any system is limited by the operational rules applying to that system, so the trams usually have a governor that limits the speed to the maximum system speed. 70 km/h is a common internationally accepted maximum speed for a tram running on line-of-sight. More important for journey time is average speed, which is influenced more by acceleration from and deceleration into stops and cornering ability, all of these not being strong points for the Citadis which is limited by its fixed bogies and adhesion being only about 66%.

The original Variotrams used to hit 80 in the John Street tunnel. What speed to the newer trams do there?

Stadler Citylink goes even faster in Hungary.

only 45? i would think it could at least make it within the 50-60 mph mark

oh well i shouldn't be too ungreatful i mean this is probably the only line in which these trams will achieve their max speed since the lines they run on now are incredibly slow

I hope you did not ‘dob in’ this driver and cost him his job. I always hide the identity of my drivers just in case management considers they have done something wrong.
