Damn. This is some logic that you really need to share with Seattle. These people still don’t seem to get it.

A big and possibly the main problem is its public perception, especially by company heads and politicians. Most people see public transit as gross, inefficient and for poor people, which mostly came from car dealer propaganda. Like the paradox explains, more cars just creates more traffic, but the idea of individual vehicles for each individual on roads has grown so large we can’t accept other options that aren’t a variation of cars.

That's Montreal's problem too. The traffic gets worse and the buses are stuck in it. Making it worse is the city's administration's indifference to the problem, as they assume the only alternative to the motor vehicle is bikes, which in real life don't work for as many people as they think.

I wonder how well increased frequency can mitigate this issue.

If you make it expensive to drive from congestion charging, expensive parking, traffic calming, and make car travel the long way, it's actually faster on a bike, and bikes don't get slowed down from a lot of cyclists.

On top of that, the frequent subway service interruptions, especially the ancient Bloor-Danforth line, relegate us to those awful shuttle buses 😮

Problem is, outside the core its up to 5 times slower to take transit than to drive. Wild when you think that toronto also has the 3rd worst traffic in the world.

Toronto has awful traffic planning. The province is then allowing condo's do be built without traffic planning, then the roads can never be widened.

Most of the city is 1lane north an 1lane south. There is no room in the city for these bus lanes.
