The Czechs are phenomenal engineers - always have been - even with the limitations imposed upon them during the 20th century. Really lovely people too, I found when I visited Prague, which is beautiful. It's worth checking out old Tatra cars too. They were wild. Aerodynamic limousines with air-cooled V8 in the rear, from the 30s onwards.

Hello from Germany. Tatra Trucks are very underrated. In Constuction Areas and Offroad they are number one. I've driven an aircooled Model from the 1980's for 6 months. Tatra trucks are built on a central frame tube. That explains their awesome Offroad skills.

Tatra is really Czech national treasure. Their modus operandi is a construction with a skeleton frame with a central tube with the driveshaft inside, and solid half axles going sideways from each differential. Its super robust, perfect for offroading, decent for movement on pavement, they make trucks like that for almost a century now, and they also used to do luxury limousines like that until 1990.
Add the air-cooled V8, which is as close to maintenance-free as it gets, and you have a beast that would rule even in Siberian conditions.
Im an automobile engineering student, and the school Im attending has a truck workshop, which often maintains Tatras, including military ones. Its really cool to go to school around the military T 815 FORCE, with military camo and everything.
The Phoenix type is not technically in series production, as every piece is made to order, but there´s really lot of them. People also use them as agricultural tractors, towing tippers over the field.
The 815 is basically the universal type that can do everything. They even make them as self propelled howitzers, because unless that thing gets hit by a really big bomb, it just keeps working no matter what.

Hello from Switzerland, I know Tatra primarily from the area of ​​off-road trucks and I know that they used to be very good in the discipline. Following on the theme of Tatra, you should watch the Europe Truck Trials. They get all kinds of large offroad trucks similar to this one (mostly Tatra) and do offroad challenges. A lot of participants use the Legendary Tatra 813 which essentially gave birth to the 8x8 offroad chassis for tatra.

TATRA are legend, even wheel suspension is legend, unbreakeble. And air cooled v10, v12 diesel engine is strong as tank. I am very glad that tatra has reborn like Phoenix, as mighty and mistical bird.

TATRA is VERY underrated. TATRA is the most high quality, most confortable, most applicable, most utilitarian, most versatile, most offroad capable semi truck in the world. They are king at mining forestry, fire and other emergency use and other severe heavy envirement usage. They are UNbeaten, and will be for a long time.

Fun fact: Now Tatra is not that much recognized and most of their sold trucks goes to military and special purposes, but back then they made faster cars then Mercedes, and many SS officers during WW2 killed themselves in them :D Its also third oldest car company in the world! Founded in 1850

The TATRA are renowned for their off road capability ..The one in the video uses the DAF cab , If you look at the orange delivery truck in the video it is the same cab, ,Engine wise it i think is running the DAF MX 13 LITRE 530HP, ,It is also running the DAF exhaust after treatment system ...You may know the engine from your side as DAF are owned by PACCAR who do Peterbilt and Kenworth and use the MX engine it is badged as the PACCAR MX...Multi steer axles are popular in europe for normal transport, though the steered axles are not drive axles..So you can have 2 steered 1 drive and another steer

I got to drive the Tatra 813 8 x 8 at Libros in Ostrava, Czech Republic. Just a week ago (June 2023) and it was absolutely the most amazing experience of my life and then I got to drive the brand new 2023 Phoenix and that was just the most unbelievable experience that thing was smoother on an off-road test track than a Cadillac sitting in a parking lot! Kopřivnice, The town that the factory is in there are two museums one is newly completed and that is for the trucks it is absolutely beautiful and they are in the process of renovating well starting the renovations on the car museum this coming year. My background Czech, that’s my families hometown, literally Tatra is in my blood. I am in the process of planning my Summer 2020 for a trip to go back and drive more Tatra’s.

I am from Czechia and all i can say, that Tatra and Praga are legends for our trucks industry, we also have skoda xena but the abandoned project so Tatra is only one that can beat almost all duty trucks in europe.

This is a classic Tatra model, it has only front-wheel steering, but has all-wheel drive. It's build around a central steel tube which contains the drive shafts which drives each wheel. Also, each wheel has independent suspension. It's a very durable, rigid structure.
