During a recent section hike of the Appalachian Trail, I decided to film everything I do at camp to show what a nighttime camping routine looks like for me. There are a lot of camp chores involved with backpacking, so hopefully I can give you an idea of what it's really like!

Crazy tip: I actually lay my z-lite pad on the ground of the tent site I have picked. I lay down on the pad to check my head-to-hill orientation. When I find the position I like, I leave the pad there and pitch my tent over the pad. Works like a charm for a good night sleep every time!

Good video, you rarely see the night time routine. Getting a good routine down is paramount to setting up quickly, breaking camp quickly and making sure you don't forget anything behind.

“I just stare at the bag until it’s ready this one took 9 minutes” 😂

It is comforting and soothing to have a routine. I'm like my old Basset Hound, happiest when my routine is not disturbed. Thanks for the video.

Thanks! Nice hang. I hang food second. You can’t take your eyes off your food for a milli-second here: crows, squirrels, bears, and who knows what! I fry up some dry cured meat while I wait for rehydration. Collecting firewood is a good one to keep warm too.

You were my favorite AT blog last year. Only one I watched all the way.

Just stopped by your gift shop in Meredith and spent more $ than I care to reveal. Such a well-stocked and inviting place - look forward to returning when I start working in WMNF this summer.

Funny, for a hiking video with no actual hiking, this was strangely compelling. You sounded so relaxed and the edits were very well done. (I think I would call your dinner ‘cream if Mac & cheese soup’)

Hey Taylor! Really,
really great video for anyone that was curious about what happens at night after a long day on trail! You nailed that throw, and it was a hard one! I am so close to grabbing that pump, I know it’s 3oz but my pump sack is already 1.8 so what’s another 1.2! 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well.

Fantastic video, "hiker's life". I don't know how you are doing it but your vlogs are full of life and very realistic. Best on YT. We are third of the way through your AT series with my girlfriend. Thank you for your effort.

Very similar to camp my routine. I am glad you could revisit the A.T and fill in the section you missed.

ENJOYED your video. Love to camp in our great MN state parks, but never actually backpack. I got enough of lugging stuff on my back in the Army and when I got out I was disabled with a back injury. But I love sleeping on a good air mattress in the wilderness and warm sleeping bag and getting a great night of sleep. For some reason I slept much better camping than at home just as long as the raccoons do not fight over the food I thought was secure. Those creatures are loud when fight over your cheetos and hot Chocolate. Of course the other reason might be because when I camp I do not have my very loving cat sleeping on my face either. She get to stay home and protect the place from any mice. If I see her with a mouse I always pick them up and find a new home in the woods ( away from homes or farms) for them with a nice start on a little hole, some nesting stuff to get started and some food. I found one mouse in my home in the winter and it was -20 below outside so I went a bought a cage and kept her until winter was over and she had a chance to make it without freezing to death. But I think I got off topic as usual. So enjoy your travels and looking forward to some more videos. Thank.
