As a kid watching American westerns and rattle snakes scared me. Then I got slightly older and realised I was Australian and that the Browns and taipan snakes we'd seen were far more worrying😅

I live out in the Sonoran desert and in the presence of four different species. I have to truly be on guard for them constantly. The Mojave tend to be the most cryptic so will find hiding places under almost everything. I turn nothing over by hand.

My dad picked up a little rattler in the garden. It was about the size of a pencil. My mom said I think that's a rattler. About that time It popped him on the thumb and he his arm swelled up and he had to spend 2 nights in the hospital.🤣

The babies are beautiful. Brightly colored. Im in eastern diamondback country and they have very stark and vivid coloration.
