I hope we all know that it doesn't matter who is in the 'top job' because this is a systemic problem -- greed. We have allowed many of our economic sectors, to take advantage of the American people. It's disgusting and frightening for the future of our country. My husband and I will be retiring in the next two years n another country. All these tariffs will do is discourage people from trading with the US. I'm Australian, and we've been friends with the US since the 30s-40s. We fought beside you in WW2, in Vietnam, in Afghanistan. We host your military bases. We have not used tariffs in decades because our politicians know from experience of the Aussie economy in the 80s that they just harm the population.
We do not have any tariffs on the US. A biosecurity law and a medication subsidy are not tariffs. We cannot negotiate this supposed 10% tariff because it does not exist.
Australians tend to have a particular dislike of arrogant people. This man is not only arrogant; he is narcissistic, he has insulted and severely damaged over 80 years of friendship, and he is cruel.
If we're insulted like this for no reason by one of our closest allies, we have no reason to want to put you above our own dignity.
Our government is renegotiating a trade deal with the EU that failed to pass a while ago. Several industry representatives have said that they will prioritise shifting to other markets rather than trying to get into the US.
We don’t want to have to do this to everyday Americans, because most of you are decent people and good mates. But we will not bend the knee to a tyrannical government that is actively trying to force our laws to change so that big companies can exploit us as much as they do to Americans.
