The word genius gets thrown around a lot but Scott, he’s the real thing. Fortunate to have played with Scott many times in the past and he keeps amazing me. Heard him with Maria’s big band (I’m an alumni) summer before last and I could hardly believe his clarinet playing, maybe the best I’ve ever heard.

That theme melody was played so beautifully! He really knows the tune, almost heard the lyrics listening to it.

Scott Robinson is one of the most accomplished musicians I ever heard. Today he plays Trumbauer‘s C-melody parts, tomorrow he records with Roscoe Mitchell. The bass sax is his tenor, the tenor is his soprano, his bass flute playing is the ultimate treat.

Starts out so sweet! Then so high! Scott has it ALL covered. Even without picking up the Monster.

The way Scott finishes it out @7:00 is beyond imagination and uniquely Scott Robinson.
Somehow he takes it down to a low subtone, and then generates some wild overtones, and then Bends the low subtone (overtone?) back UP at the very end.
It’s mind-boggling to me. A lot of people won’t even realize he did it, but I do.
… I asked a top pro Baritone player friend of mine about it, and he said this IN JEST:
“I think you could do it.... Just play a really low subtone and as you're fading out on it, squeeze your chops enough to pop out a high overtone squeak or a high overtone chord.” <= HAHAHA
