This is a true story too! Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant was dancing with a girl & her husband actually pulled a gun...He didn't actually y say gimne 3 steps...but yeah he & Gary Rosdingtin & one of the other band members did run out the door...supposedly they wrote the song on the way home in about 30 minites...

This is a true story.. I read somewhere that Ronnie wrote these lyrics in the car on the way home from the incident

I'm an old fart, and I love it when a young guy like you discovers the joys of the Southern Rock bands of the last century; it is a joy to watch the reaction you give to music that is likely older than you are. Keep on keepin on.

The Jug is a real place in Jacksonville, Florida where Ronnie, Allen, Gary, Bob, Leon, & Billy all grew up. The Jug Saloon. Went there a year ago and met an ex-marine. I was wearing one of my Cactus shirts, and he asked me about who Cactus was. I mentioned at one point how the singer Rusty Day was in The Amboy Dukes with Ted Nugent before he was in Cactus. “Teddy! I know him, ” he said. “Wanna talk with him over my phone?” My jaw dropped! “Uhh...sure!” My dad was there and I let him know what was going on. “What are you gonna say?” “I. Don’t. Know!” Ted was in a hurry, so I could say much, but I had a couple of beers so I don’t remember what I said. It was a moment to remember though. Saw Teseschi-Trucks perform that night, and visited Ronnie, Lacy, Marion, Jimmy, Leon, Allen, & Kathy the next day before heading to Macon to see the many different Allman Brothers Band sites, mainly the big house and the cemetery.

If you're in a Southern Rock mood, try Molly Hatchet "Flirtin' with Disaster". Thx again for your videos!

Well just watched you react to "That Smell" and commented you needed to listen to "Gimmie 3 Steps" and boom here it is. Let's try "Don't ask me no questions" next. Again keep up the good work!

Lynyrd Skynyrd was AMAZING extremely young when they recorded alot of their hits like this one and Freedbird ages 19-22 to have such a seasoned sound and message
