When put "on hold", and the on-hold music coming through the phone is pop, I sink a little and wish that I be put through immediately, so that the pop music is instantly extinguished. But if it is a classical piece of music that is the on-hold music, I invariably wish not to be put through to the other person so quickly: I just want to sit there and listen to the classical music through the phone. Is this because I have a good reason to listen to classical music when in that situation? Or does that just show that classical music is a natural tonic for the soul or the nerves that we could all do more with?
