When I was a kid and these first started being used we all used run the couple hundred yards from home to railway siding to watch them start up absolute beasts each one had its own sound and growl loved them and riding on them.

The Cardiff Canton just passed us while we were walking the dog on the beach, Nth Wales. Could tell it wasn't the usual engine passing just from the sound. I'm not a train buff, but even I enjoyed seeing it pass 😊

Its the firing order that make these sound like they do.V12, s or V16, s firing two pots at a time running down the crank.Glorious noise and pigs to start for the same reason.
