Buried deep in Aix-en-Provence is a thriving morning market. Provence, in the south of France, is a land of markets — colors, people, a relaxed vibe, and a love of life have all existed together in tight quarters for centuries. When you have a small fridge tucked under the sink (rather than a freezer in the garage), you need to go shopping each morning — and you get to check in with your neighbors.

My partner and I actually stayed in an apartment facing the square (3 Place Richelme) for 5 days and had the good fortune to take in the huge Monday market. What a great experience. Amazing market right outside our door. Our stay in Aix covered December 23 -27, 2018. We purchased numerous items that morning and ate in the apt. every day. Living like a local.

Another thing I don’t think I’ve heard mentioned is how cash is still king at these markets overseas. At many US markets, vendors often have cellular card swiping option, but I have yet to see that as a whole in Europe. Shanghai was more card friendly than anywhere I’ve been in Europe.
