The world's ageing population

The world's population is aging considerably and it is projected that the current 700 million people over 60 years old will double by 2050, a United Nations human rights panel heard today (15 Sept).

Rosa Kornfeld-Matte, the United Nations Independent expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons, said the growing number of senior citizens poses to be one of the new challenges.
