This is a great tip if you are peeling alot of garlic . Plus 20 second isnt even enough time to cook the garlic . It s just to heat up some moisture in between the layers to create steam and thats what seperates the smhusk or skin of the garlic ( or what ever the peel is called)

This is a pretty good method. There is still some peeling involved but this makes it easier. I have severe arthritis so shaking a can vigorously is not an option for me. I found the texture AND flavor to be well intact after 15 seconds on high. Thank you Jenny.

As others have said, press with the flat side of a broad bladed knife (on a plastic or ceramic cutting board so you don't lose the juice). Done. Or use a garlic press which actually isn't that bad either, especially if you just want 1-3 cloves. (For bigger jobs like a professional chef, yeah, the knife).

here's how mass-peel garlic in epic amounts without heating it - allows to peel 10s of bulbs in minutes, works even for young garlic which is normally PITA to peel:
1. smash or press on bulbs with something blunt slightly so they open
2. put them into food processor with "dough" attachment (blunt blades)
3. put water in food processor so water covers the garlic
4. process for few minutes
5. now all you want to do is to remove peel easily if not already removed by above procedure

peeling is not the problem, i can do it fast and no problem. but the smell that stays on your hands/finger is just immortal. cant get rid of it with anything

I must say this trick was a life saver! 20 secs really not a big deal. Im sure its still somewhat nutritious probably better than Jared minced

A better method is to boil water, turn off heat, throw in cloves for 30 secs or so, then peel.
