In this week’s video, we’re going to go over the do’s and don’ts of a mock interview. That’s coming up.

Hi guys, I’m Kim with Snagajob, your number one source for hourly jobs and welcome to our weekly advice show.

Let’s face it, getting an interview is exciting but also a little nerve-racking. Like the saying goes, practice makes perfect. A mock interview is a great way to prepare for your real interview, but only if you do it right. Here are a few do’s and don’ts to help you out.

DO dress appropriately. Wear professional clothes that you would wear to a real job interview.

DON’T just roll out of bed.

DO prepare like a real job interview. This means bringing copies of your resume and preparing interview questions and answers.

DON’T wing it.

DO feel free to start over. Now is the time to practice your answers, so if you stumble or make a mistake, gather yourself, and start over.

DON’T freak out if you make a mistake.

DO take feedback constructively. Learn from the feedback you receive so you can better prepared for your real job interview.

DON’T take it personally.

Although a mock interview isn’t the real thing, dressing the part will get you in a professional state of mind and allow you to see how you carry yourself in interview attire.

Doing a mock interview will allow you to spot your mistakes before your actual interview and get you that much closer to landing a job.

Thank you for doing this for the rest of us. This has helped me a lot and I'm 40. I should be more confident when talking to others. Truth is I tend to lock words when in an interview. I will share this with others on my fb page. Who knows who it can help. BTW have a great time on your maternity time.

i have a very difficult time making eye contact. when i talk, i want to look everywhere but straight into theyre eyes. i can't do it for some reason. i mean, i can make eye contact for maybe 1 second straight, but then i look elsewhere. i don't see "how in the hell" people can maintain steady eye contact throughout conversation, interviews, etc.

Hey, just curious. When the interviewer asks if you have any questions, is "what do you expect of your employees?" A good question? It's the only one I can think of and its better than nothing I guess

Two questions I absolutely despise in interviews, and why:

1. Where do you see yourself in five years?

This implies I have a crystal ball to divine the future. I don't. No one does. I can say what my goals are for where I want to be in five years. Ask me that.

2. Why should we hire you?

Wrong question, because there is no answer to it. There is absolutely nothing special about any given applicant that would make an employer choose him or her over everyone else. It's a gotcha question designed to weed out people who can't answer right away, or at all. The correct question would be asked by the applicant: Why should I come work for you? What is it about your company, and what does it offer me, that I should come work for you over any of the others to which I've applied? And then the applicant lists what drew him or her and what the company has to offer.
