Robin Hood, Thoresby & The Sink Holes

First, I hope you are all well and keeping safe in this difficult time.
Today we are walking a circular route around Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire from Edwinstowe.
Passing where Robin Hood weds, as well as finding the Major Oak and onwards to Thoresby Hall and its sink holes, passing the Buck Gates before arriving back at the Sherwood Forest Visitors Centre.
The Route:
We start in Edwinstowe by the Church of St Mary's (Parking by the visitor centre) then off to the Major Oak via the Sherwood Forest Visitors Centre, from here we turn Left and head on up to Centre Tree then taking a right on the Robin Hoods Way and then a right to meet the path on left to the hamlet village of Budby passing the entrance to Budby Castle, turn left then right onto the minor road until we reach Chameleon Lodge then right along the grass verge by the road to Thoresby Hall, crossing the River Meden and passing the sink holes we reach Perlethorpe Church then up to White Lodge where the stone arches of Buck Gates now stand, then passing the works an old Proteus army camp we reach the original location of Buck Gates on the Dukes Carriageway, onwards we pass the back of the spoil heap of disused Thoresby Colliery, crossing the road we pass the old visitor centre and head down to the new Visitor centre and the car park.
Just over 9 miles - family friendly with parking, refreshments and plenty of wildlife to see and hear.
