White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Friday that U.S. President Joe Biden has been clear he will not negotiate over the debt limit, adding that conversations with Congressional leaders have been about appropriations and the budget and how “Congress should get back to regular order.”

“There’s no deal to be had on the debt ceiling. There’s no negotiation to be had on the debt ceiling” Jean-Pierre said. She added that a default “can not happen.”

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has warned that the U.S. could default as soon as June 1 if a deal is not reached.

Jean-Pierre also spoke briefly about the death of an unaccompanied migrant teen in U.S. custody, saying the administration was “deeply saddened” by the news.

The 17-year-old from Honduras died in custody in Florida, officials said, in what is believed to be the first such death in years.
