I feel like I was meant to have a fanfiction habit thanks to how often I've been imagining how things in my fave fiction works can go since childhood, but surprisingly, what really got me into both reading and writing fanfiction was an example essay that was a part of a freshman-level English class I took in university. XD

I extremely prefer nonfiction books, it takes really exceptional fiction to entertain me, although I did enjoy the LotR books.

Fan fiction CAN be good; it's just most of the writers are pure amateurs. This means you're constantly wading through a sea of mediocrity to find the gems. I'm speaking as someone who also wrote mediocre fan fiction myself, by the way. But no, most fan fiction is bad because the writers are either are just starting out and not yet skilled, or are just writing for the sake of wish fulfillment, or just think that writing a story takes absolutely zero effort and write to prove that, demean the art, and piss off more passionate writers. So I don't really blame Mumei for having trouble taking an interest in the fan fiction of any fandom.
