This video looks at the details of the flanges on a welded-louver bonnet being built in our shop. The early 1961 bonnets have all of their flanges spot-welded to the skin rather than glued like most E-Type bonnets, and the flanges are also slightly wider, shaped a bit differently, etc. Here we takle a look at those differences and discuss some of the factory construction methods of these early bonnets.

Monocoque Metalworks has a LONG history of both restoring these early bonnets, as well as building perfect reproductions from scratch - as seen here... If your E-Type left the factory with one of these bonnets, it really should have it to be correct and without it, the value of these early cars is drastically reduced. Call us for help! We can restore your original, convert your current bonnet to the correct early specs, or even supply the correct pieces for you to complete the work yourself.

Chuck. I may be wrong, and l normally am ! But l seem to recall that we put a copper block between the spot welder arm and the work piece on the outside to prevent distortion . You've got nothing to lose !
