Henrico County employees recently participated in Henrico Day at Virginia Union University, an event designed to connect students at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) with professional opportunities in local government.

Hosted by the Henrico Department of Outreach and Engagement, Henrico Day brings together employees from various departments to connect with HBCU students, and showcase the county’s community empowerment efforts and public service opportunities tailored to students' skills and degrees.

Recruitment isn't the only purpose of Henrico Day, though. The event highlights the rewarding nature of public service and emphasizes that contributing to the community can be a fulfilling career.

Henrico Day is one of many efforts undertaken by Outreach and Engagement, which the Board of Supervisors established to streamline and strengthen how Henrico serves residents with diverse needs, including seniors, members of multicultural communities, individuals with disabilities and others. The creation of the department also underscores the county’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
