While Olympus is being transferred to JIP, I thought it is the perfect time to take a deeper look into the current OM-D system and celebrate what made Olympus truly a unique system. Olympus is an innovative company and they have pioneered some truly useful and unique features - powerful and reliable 5-Axis Image Stabilization, Live Composite mode, Hand-Held 50MP High Res Shot, and many more. I am discussing my top 5 pick of the OM-D unique features in this latest video.

I would add incredible weather sealing and build quality in both the bodies and lenses. I came from FF Canon with Canon glass. Olympus glass in up to par if not better than Canon.

Good to see your smiling face Robin. Just bought the M1mkiii, what a great piece of kit. Have been shooting high ISO images, 6400-12800. I have have been running them through DxO Photolab 4 and their Deep Prime...they come out looking as if shot at 200 ISO ..what a combo, the brilliant Oly m1mkiii and Deep Prime, I need never be concerned about possible image degradation again. Another thing I have found is that the Mkiii is a lot sharper, to my eyes, than the Mkii, that IX processer sure does an outstanding job.

Some more outstanding features that few other camera manufacturers have:
-> Live ND on the E-M1 X and mark iii
-> In camera exposure bracketing (HDR 1 and 2) with RAW file output
-> In camera focus stacking for jpeg output (I would love to see them make this work with ORF)
-> In camera time-lapse video compilation
-> Best weather sealing out of any camera brand (Pro Olympus cameras and lenses only). *Tested by Imaging Resource*
-> Best IBIS for video in stability and panning

The Image stabilization in the OMD EM5 is so incredible.. I cannot imagine how good is now in the most modern cameras like the OMDEM1iii or 1x.. Olympus rules on IBIS !

Feature 2 4:18, Canon M6 mark 2 has a pre capture mode (similar to procapture), with the 1/2 buffer prior to final press of the button so you don't miss the action, it does reduce the image to 18 megapixel but works well. Love to try the Olympus some day to compare

Years ago, I had a Canon 40D and I used to get out of focus shots all the time. Now I have an Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II and I RARELY get out of focus photos. On my last photo shoot, I was really pleased that I got mostly "keepers". I really like that IBIS is a pay for once item (the cost of the camera) and you are not paying for lens image stabilization over and over and over, like you do with Canon, Nikon, and others.

The small size and low weight sold the E-PL series to me. My new EM5 is huge by comparison, but still tiny compared to FF.

While not technically a "camera feature" some of the Olympus lenses are unique, such as the 12-100mm F4 Pro zoom; the all-in-one lens with remarkably good performance throughout the entire zoom range. I don't think any other camera maker offers this unique combination of range, speed, close-up capability, sharpness, stabilisation and weather resistance.

I shoot with Olympus but I think it's worth mentioning that Pentax actually had a handheld hi res mode first. Not sure if it works the same way but the end result is the same. Pental K1 ii

Just add the omd em5 mk3 to my "collection" (also have omd em10 mk2 and omd em1 mk2) and just love olympus and i think i am geared for the rest of my life as a enthusuast. Enjoy my olympus gear a lot and will never change. At my age of 61 it is the perfect gear.

Live time and live composite were what made me look seriously at Olympus gear. Why other mirrorless manufacturers haven’t added those features is beyond me. The Olympus feels positively space age coming from a DSLR.
