Writing this comment from my newly repaired laptop - thanks to this video!

It was a long process but not too difficult, with the right equipment. The desolder braid was a must. I actually found it easier to remove the pins one by one, with them cut from the jack, rather than trying to remove it all in one go. Hardest part was the desoldering. New one went in very easy.

Thanks again!

What brand of gaming laptop is the most reliable? I know from experience it definitely is not MSI lol

I find when dealing with those flat ribbon cables (that attach through those ZIF connectors) I use a pair of tweezers (the ones in my iFixIt toolkit are good for that). Forget trying to manipulate them with my clumsy fingers.

One thing to be VERY careful with for those flat/ZIF connectors though: some unlock by flipping up, some by sliding out. Be very sure to check which kind they are before opening them. I broke the power button ribbon connector on a Dell N7110 by opening it the wrong way (and I don't have the right soldering equipment or skill to fix it). So I have a machine that *was* working, but I can't power on anymore.

And as for that cordless screwdriver: wouldn't it be easier/better to use a cordless screwdriver instead? Something not so awkward? I think my B&D cordless was around $20.

(and I'll need to call tomorrow about repairing the board in my wife's GF65 Thin 9SD)

I have this same computer and my port is still in place but the solder is broke on the back small silver pins so it only works of u hold pressure on the charger. Could I just add some solder to the existing one or should I have the port completely changed out.

Hey! I have an issue where the small part of the motherboard that holds the jack, the one closest to the fan on the opposite side of the HDMI jack, snapped in half. My jack is being held on by solder and a dream. Is this fixable?
