Truth about GOLD PLATED jewelry

Questions come up all the time about gold plated jewelry. It's a very popular and practical alternative to spend the hundreds or thousands of dollars for fine jewelry. I just wanted to give my "real talk" or 2 cents about gold plated jewelry. In no way am I bashing or discrediting gold plated jewelry. I prefer fine jewelry.

People make it seem like there's a problem if you wear gold plated. Like who cares? Some people don't wanna drop a couple grand on a chain

Jewelry tip: if you want gold plate, rhodium plate, or black rhodium plate to last long your jewelry has to first be pre-polished then high polished and then cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner and then steamed. Then you heat up the electroplate cleaning solution and the gold or rhodium solution. Once both solutions are very hot you take the clean polished jewelry and plate it. When you do it like this the plating will last long.

$150-$400 for a real Gold chain isn't a lot of money when you think about it....I’ve seen ALOT of young dudes in the hood Work at the Wal Mart & other stores and spend that much money on Weed, nasty fast food, and Air Maxs every month LOL

I’ve been using gold plated for years. You want some “real talk” if you buy 925 plated silver, it will last . With a few simple tips you’ll have a cheap piece for years and will never get a green neck with plated silver. If you are a normal dude or someone who makes decent money why pay $2500 for a 4 or 5 mm Cuban with a box lock when you can pay $80 for a silver plated one that will last at least a few years. Now if you have to replace every few years, you still won’t make it to the $2500 mark buying 5 chains. In my opinion if you don’t have the money to blow don’t save up and waste your money on solid gold. Imagine losing or someone steeling that shyt, hell no. Don’t turn into a walking lick.

I bought a gold plated Cuban necklace, when I first got into gold. It faded within 5 days and was told when I eventually got replies from the company that it was due to inappropriate wear. This company has the flash website, the promised guarantees, everything. But when it came down to it they were pigs. I would love to name them for you to test a piece of theirs. Well I think it's different strokes for different folks. If your the type to wear jewelry all the time then maybe get a solid piece of gold. But if you just want something to accessorize with maybe every now and then there nothing wrong with a good quality gold plated piece. And if you don't wear every day it may last a lifetime. And you didn't break the bank to get a certain look.

Black Rhodium plating over Gold is the only plated jewelry worth buying because after the Black color wears off, at least you still got some nice Gold underneath....And after you have the black colour fully removed it's almost like you bought some brand new Gold jewelry.

I own both fine and plated jewelry. With my earrings, I don't feel comfortable wearing them in places where I may lose them, so I wear my plated ones. Also, I can get trendier pieces in plated.

okay for those wondering:
Gold plating does not mean fake or will turn green. the reason you turn green is because the gold is plated over something like brass or copper. Now if you plate gold over silver then this wont be a problem, this is called vermeil.

there are 2 types of silver, there is 925 and 999, this refers to the amount of silver purity. so 92% or 99% pure.

When you plate gold it's only about 2 microns of gold, its like a heavier finish to give a gold look with out having a solid gold piece. This is why some consider it to be fake, because its almost a redesign of the original metal.

If you ask me solid gold is cool, I think its nice but a little pointless, i mean the resell value is higher but i dont think anyone is planning on having to resell their jewelry... idk just some context because i feel like this guy just said things generally
