I came to watch this because my first ever car was a Fabia 1.4MPI it was a mid range comfort but I got the alloys for it and the elegance gearlever plus a few other bits. It was an awful, wheezy old thing but it has so much nostalgia for me. It was good for a new driver though, diesel like torque at low revs. Probably for the best it was so slow or i'd be dead by now lol!

i have the same engine, and the motor is very old and litle punchy, poor torque but is fun to drive, economic consumption in city roads, and could defend on higways too, , not more 165 KM/Hr like a maximun speed, is good, not at all, but for the price and the specs of that engine, is good at the final...

Generally speaking, if it is the "classic" 1.4 MPI Skoda engine (68HP, or the more economic 60HP or the later 86 HP appeared in Roomster) is a pretty old controction, but was kind of advanced at the same time. As far as I know, it was the first full alu engine at VW. The main problem with this engine, that the air intake is reduced a lot, and the negine could do much more with better /more air.
The high fuel consumtion is also related to this, as air is not enough to reach perfect burning.

There was a guy I know who had a Roomster with the 86HP engine. Especially when the air condition was on, he found it too weak. So he put in sport air filters (that fits perfectly into the place of the original) and Brisk platine sparks. He reported +5-7HP and +20 Nm on measurement and much more dynamic driving experience. Fuel consumption also decreased by 0, 5l/100km.
Based on this experience first I ordered now the sport filter (work on oil surface filtering, and not with paper filters), and if it improves., then will buy the Brisks too (or somehing else)

Seems to be a little overshot for such an old car, butI like it's design and do not want to chnage it to a new one yet, as it has no issues at all (despite being 16 years old car now).
Anyhow, it does not make any sense to buy an otther dizel or benzin car, or buy a very expensive electric or hybrid cars. The electric car boom will happen within 2 years on the entry segment oo, so it worth to wait a little and keep this nice little car in agood (or even better) shape. :-)
