There is an Australian movie called "Mystery Road". I believe it came out in 2013. Detective Jay Swan is investigating the murder of an indigenous girl. We watch him methodically put the pieces together. The movie ends with an intense shootout. I loved this movie.
They also came out with tv series, I believe they are on season three. I do recommend the movie.

I like 'The Dry' with Eric Bana. That is a slow murder mystery with two storylines - past and present. I also just watched 'Friends Like Her' (NZ) also slow.

Line of Duty is an AWESOME series. Happy Valley was also great. Recipes for Love and Murder was a surprisingly enjoyable watch. Troppo and Savage River were both very engaging Australian mysteries.

Saw this series at the start of the year and it was ok, I thought it dragged though at times and 6 episodes was quite long. Also the mystery part was no big surprise. Acting was good, scenery was impressive ( beautiful place to visit ). I would give this an overall 3 out of 5 couches.

Nothing here was 'exaggerated' to heighten the mood, but the (Australian) actor was well suited for the mood I guess? For "cold-cases" type investigative, slow/talky, at times, but engrossing series - it's British, like Line of Duty.

Favorite slow pace mystery series? The killing. Strangely enough, the way you described Black Snow reminds me a little bit of that show.

I started watching. Seems odd the guy likes getting smacked around. 😮. Brutal.

He’s Australian. Not American. Generally men are not as emotionally large’ or expressive. Cultural difference. It worked for Fox Mulder. David played him very under stated. That actor played Ragnar in Vikings. Probably over hyper emotional characters 😂
