I'm from Quebec and I think the government agrees with the pipeline project through Quebec. They're trying to accept it without causing too much popular backlash...

In light of the recent train accident pipeline now look at lot safer than trains to transport oil. Quebec has its own oil deposits and wants to keep its rafineries alive to have them eventually refine our own oil and develop our own oil sector.

So for thoses reasons among others I think they'll approve the thing..

I'm sure most of the money from the oil fields are not really going into canadian's pockets but I agree a pipeline isn't a bad idea.

Keep the pipeline in Canada even through the Rocky Mts and start building refineries.

"But a pipeline is cheaper in the long run"
==
That is, if they don't count the responsibility of clean up nor health hazard to the people once the pipe gets ruptured.
Basically the way they think is that they get the profit when everything works out fine, they send the bill to the tax payers when the oil spills.
Tar sand is more corrosive than any other, material made for crude oil which currently being installed can't tolerate it.
That's problem waiting to happen.

Canada needs to build refineries, or else not bother with such schemes at all

But a pipeline is cheaper in the long run, for the rich business men, because normal trucking of oil is expensive, so, maybe the pipeline would not be bad, if only it was not so cheap financially and expensive for whoever the ''accidents ''happen to that the pipeline will sometimes have happen(breaks, explosions)

isnt that what they call externalities? i think i forget the right word. basically anything that results from the workings of the capitalist system for which they are not held liable just as they never have been
