Welcome to English in a Minute!
Children love to play! You could say it’s their job. But Anna and Jonathan are not children. So, how might they use the expression?
CHILD’S PLAY
J: Anna, what are you doing?
A: My robot camera stopped working. So, I’m fixing it.
J: Do you even know how?
A: Well, taking it apart was child’s play.
J: Yeah, but putting it back together might require an adult … with an engineering degree.

“Child’s play” describes a simple, easy task. You don’t really have to think about what you’re doing. You just do it.

If there’s a breakdown on a home appliance, fixing it is seldom child’s play.
