Steam wins because it is a platform period. People can use it and everyone know what steam is. STABILIY gains trust that they won't be randomly banned, demonetized, etc based on the current flavor of politics.

This makes me think of a section in the Tao Te Ching where the author describes a good ruler as someone who is well liked by everyone and understood to be competent and doing a good job, but the best ruler is one who the people often forget is even there because everything is running so smoothly and so well that everyone just takes it for granted and doesn't think about it. I'm sure there's actually been a lot of work over the years into making Steam the best platform and people mostly don't realize and just take it for granted.
