I love the Nigerian community. I am an A-level science teacher and a lot of my students are Nigerian. Very smart, very hard-working, always polite good family values. This is why I like the Nigerian culture.

Normal people: You're pissing me off, and I won't tolerate that

Nigerians: "Don't let the devil use you because you will suffer the consequences alone"

I am a Nigerian and reading through these comments is giving me life, cause, many of the things y'all are writing are common expressions that we just somehow understand. It is nice to see us from your lens.

My Nigerian mom used to call my brothers short girlfriend " the Brief and Summarized one" everytime she described her.

No one will probably read this but….. the reason why this is, is actually down to the Nigerian Languages. Many buildings and objects have no one word for them, for example in a Yoruba “Toilet” translates word for word in English to “The house of shit” and the English word School translates to “the house of the books” this is why we often think in poetic and descriptive ways.

That’s the end of my TED talk.

I need a book of these Nigerian mantras. 🤯 The roots run so deep, it’s like they each lived 1000 years.
