If you've ever had your vehicle repaired by the insurance companies recommended shop and you don't feel it's up to standard, you need to watch this video. So this vehicle came into our shop a few weeks ago with the issue that the window would not close properly. So she had told us she had the vehicle repaired somewhere else. Upon our investigation, we could see that it had quite a bit of body damage at one point. So we asked if she would like us to do a post repair inspection. She agreed and we took some time and we went around the vehicle. So one of the things that kind of keyed us in there might be something wrong was down here. It's not flush. There's a big gap issue. We looked at the bottom of the door and this was supposed to be a brand new door. Beginning here, the gap changes dramatically. It appears that everything's still pushed in and the back doors, the same way the back door should be flush with the edge of this molding. Yet it's about four or five millimeters in. So we dug in a little bit deeper and we got looking as we were trying to figure out why when the window would come up, it would stop and go back down inside this door. Our pinch sensors that are designed when it feels a certain amount of pressure, it will go back down so it doesn't pinch a child or a person's fingers. And in the window here, it has a big buckle in the door. It's also buckled right here around the latch area and down here at the bottom. So now we're looking at it. We're saying something's very, very wrong. This post. This is actually part of the structure of the vehicle. The vehicle's designed almost like a roll cage. And this area is very high strength steel. And it's designed if a vehicle hits you in the side, it's designed to hold up to keep the vehicle from coming inside the car with you. Well, this was repaired and we've prepared very poorly. I'll take a look at this. There's a large gap between this plastic in the metal. It's a very thin gap down here. This gap is about five millimeters wide, meaning this panel is pushed in still five millimeters. It was never repaired correctly. So we took some interior trim pieces out and took a look with our scope, our camera down in there. Inside there is a second panel that is damaged as well that is a required replacement because once that panel's damaged, the car will not react the same in an accident. We got back to this door again, a brand new door. The only thing we could come up with how they made this fit. Someone at one point bent the door like this, bent the door like this to try to make it fit the back door and make up for the damage on the center pillar. She had been back to have looked at four separate times at the repair facility that fix the car the first time. Her insurance agent kept sending your back to that same facility. They finally said, Well, go to the shop of your choice, which happened to be Mohawk Collision Center. We did the post repair inspection on this vehicle and found that it was so unsafe that it would need approximately $15,000 worth of repairs to make it 100% again. We let the insurance company know what we found. They decided the total loss of the vehicle. They felt there was so much damage and so much had gone wrong with their preferred shop that they chose to total lost the vehicle rather than repair it correctly. Unfortunately, this is far too common. We see it every day here at Mohawk Collision Center. If you have concerns about the repair that was done by your insurance company's preferred shop, come see us at Mohawk Collision Center. We'll do a post repair inspection, check everything out, make sure you're in a good, safe vehicle and no one's going to be harmed if it if there's ever an accident again.
