The double slit experiment first conducted by Thomas Young in 1802 and led to further variations of the experiment that was the birth of the understanding of wave-particle duality within quantum mechanics.

Also, I really should have said 'confirmed', rather than "discovered " in the script. He ran a different experiment in 1801 that confirmed light waves, but it wasn't the double slit experiment (which this video is about).

"observed" in this case means "measured". Contrary to popular belief the photons do not act differently if you're looking at them.
