Are Banda AL9 the New Beatles?!

Today I'm reacting to two Brazilian brothers who are a band called Banda Al9. This might be a little unusual to do, but they seem to be garnering some attention online, particularly for the use of my special clapping sequence. What do you think? Are they the Brazilian Beatles? Would you listen to their songs?

Just a disclaimer here. In this song case “chama” is a verb and it’s a verbal flexion of the verb “chamar”, which means “call”. It may be confusing i know, but flame is the translation of the noun “chama”. So, “ela me chama de amor” can be translated to “she calls me love” lol

Hey man, I don't know if you'll actually see this or not, but thanks for letting me film on stage in Sacramento. It meant nothing to you but I'll remember it for the rest of my life. I didn't think it was possible to become a bigger fan of you and The Darkness, but that's what happened.

Oh that’s great! Reminds me a ton of The Hollies as well, with how the harmonies are layered. Wonderful to hear this kind of music being made

Where did you find these guys?! Really cool. I don’t have to understand what they’re saying to appreciate it! Music is truly universal. They definitely have that 50’s vibe with a modern twist!

Thanks for that reminder of ‘The Rutles’ had forgotten all about them, but I remember they were fun. Wish I had your memory. I will now pick up on the clapping routine, when I hear it in any song.

In 3:00 you can clearly see this as different but pratically the same version of the intro of the song "Bad to me" by the Beatles. I definetly wouldn't call It a rip off because they have done a beautiful work out of an unreleased Beatles song.

The song sounds like the song Do You Want to Know a Secret

‘Chama’ has a double meaning in Portuguese, flame and call. The boys play on the words and it translates to something like this…
She calls me love( flame of love) calls me her love…

Ela me chama de amor (chama de amor), chama de amor
Great to see you around again @Justin Hawkins🤙🎸

They’re really good. I watched a few of their videos. Seeing as though one of them plays a Rickenbacker 325-12, another a Hofner Violin Bass and the other a “Rocky” George Harrison Fender Stratocaster, I think we can safely assume they’re big Beatles fans!

Great vocals an harmonies. Love it! They really belt it out. Though I would be more inclined to compare their style to the likes of The Mamas and The Papas and other American folk singers in the era of peace and love.

Anyone else hearing an influence by The Mamas & The Papas here? Can definitely hear a hint of Lemon Twigs, The Beatles & The Ruttles too!
Love the “straight jacket”, Jus! Very Nick Kershaw-esque. 🥰

It’s very very Beatles influenced. Undeniably so!
