Agricola was my first and coming into it from mostly card games and the mass market roll and move games I was like "whoa, this is so much control over what I can do and it's great"

Architects was my first thought. The capture and release mechanism is a bit of 'take that' without it feeling too much.

Late viewer here, love the list. One of my favourites is Jiangnan, got it on kickstarter, great game, the only negative thing is that not all the content fits the box, leaving a considerable lift.

My favorite mechanism for sure. The new Caylus, Lords of Waterdeep, Kingsburg etc. My favorite probably Empires: Age of Discovery with the upgradable workers.
