Sony NWZ-ZX1 Walkman review - high-res music player

Who cares about the screen resolution? I don't care if it had just a couple of LDS's on the front, the sound quality is what it should be all about.

I don't consider myself an audiophile but I bought one....imported. I love it and i never go back to listening to regular phones for music. I didn't realize what a difference mp3 quality was to the original cd...and to 16/24 bit high res music....the soundspace really feels more open. The sound seems to come from the sides giving a more spacious feel whereas mp3 quality sound is more forward coming from the front. Also I listened to 'Time' by Hans Zimmer at 224 kbps mp3 compared to a flac high-res version....you can immediately tell how the mp3 distorts the super high strings in the song...whereas the flac sounds razor sharp at the high notes. Also the bass in all my flac/aiff songs are so clear and deep without back to mp3 versions and the bass sounds more muddy....and slight artifacting at times... I'm totally happy with mine.... its like sex to my ears at the gym... oh, and im using the sony H3 earphones which adds to the amazeballs...bass sounds like my car's subwoofer.

I have the Pioneer xdp-100. Does anyone know if there are major differences in sound quality. It was less than half of the cost of this Sony, which is what I initially wanted. The Pioneer seems like a great machine so far and I am really enjoying it.

I will be amazed if anyone can tell a difference between cd quality and high res. Chances are ya headphones or your home set up cant do hi res audio. High res just means its gives you some higher frequencies which the human ear can't hear. So the music sounds exaggerated abit more open on the higher frequencies, which isnt a good thing for me. Cd is excellent and so is vinyl. For me high res audio is another marketing con for people with no life. Apple lossless files on your ipod touch and a good set of headphones is all you will ever need. Its about time sony mand a good mp3 player before they try to con us with hi res.
Ps what hifi sort ya selves out and tell it like it is, no point telling porkies.

Volume is lower because of EU health and safety laws. Import it from the USA and the volume will be louder, I guarantee it.

The proprietary data/power port would put me off.  That means it needs a special cable, and if something goes wrong with it, you're stymied.  Currectly, I have two bad cables, but as they are standard USB connectors, it doesn't matter - you find them everywhere.

Is the post below true? - $940?!!  I have never paid more than £30 for an MP3 player - and they have all worked for a year or so.

Wow, I can't believe how expensive it is. Not very realistic considering the popularity of the iPod.

1 way over priced
2 processor isnt upto scratch and lags.
3 the display is poor because its not very bright the res is crap and the glass screen is poor.
4 like all sony products now it just doesn't go load enough and to top it off ya mite just ear some hissing on softer music.
5 i wanted this to be better than the ipod touch but it just isnt.

It really is overpriced. I believe Fiio X3 is better....
