Rant: Amazon's (ex)splodey-drone, new, tougher UK and EU drone regs and more

It's time for a pre-christmas rant on the subject of drones and this time I talk about:
- the EU ditches the 250g cut-off and redefines "dangerous drones"
- Amazon patents exploding drones (but we all beat them to it).
- the UK about to introduce stricter drone rules
- the FAA says "drones more dangerous than birds" but I call BS.

Do we have to register footballs now? They can surely have more than 80

I think you hit the nail on the head regarding EU/UK regs.
The one thing the general public cant get there head around is that Rules & Regulations & Legislation & Acts only apply to people who agreed to be governed.
Rules & Regulations & Legislation & Acts are not LAWS and they are drawn up by public servants who work for us because we pay there wages. .
When i purchased RC models that fly, none of these "Rule & Regs" were in force and if they want to impose these new rules and regs on me they will need to offer financial compensation.
No public servant has asked me what i want and i have not given them permission to govern me.
Under Law no one is liable unless they have caused Loss or Harm or Injury to another human.

Amazon should create their drone delivery system that can safely fly in currently commercial (500ft+) airspace. Collision avoidance, IFF, airframe failure recovery systems etc should be built into their delivery system. Flying low is inherently dangerous as the lack of altitude gives very little time for situational analysis and recovery systems to deploy so they should be made to fly higher.

I advocate for a drone salvage law that say any commercial drone that crashes on my property becomes mine to please fly over my house!

All this will do it push the hobby underground. I won't be registering any of my aircraft, I certainly won't be timestamping when and where I fly them using an app ... I might as well be microchipped.

As a modeller in the UK, we are already registered with the BMFA insurance for modelers, as for the airports I thing it is no flying within 5KM. So all these rules are crap.

Police in the US generally leave you alone as long as you are not tresspassing, other than that, they dont care if you fly in a school yard on a weekend or open field in your neighborhood. Generally, common sense makes flying fun as long as you are not stupid. The Media has no brains and fear mongering, totally misinformed people that spend all their time looking for things to condemn including drones. As a general rule, I ignore the crap going on. If someone has an issue, then come to me, not an official.

Here in the UK the BMFA has 36000 members, you would think that out of all those people, there would at least be a few members with enough clout in positions of authority to try and get the government to see some sense, because if this ridiculous attitude towards our simple harmless hobby isn't changed, we will be left with throwing chuck gliders in our back gardens. But at not more than 40mph of course

Wouldn't a parachute be better than launching exploding multirotors?

I predict a new model aircraft sport. Amazon Drone
The whole affair makes me think of Bladerunner. Watch out for the flying police car.

so the global regulators will regulate a 250 gram flying toy but wont regulate a 1000 Joule crossbow built by JörgSprave in his shed?

I understood, from all this that... if it's explosive then it's safe. No longer dangerous.
I got this right, right?

6:00 Yeah I saw the cartoons yesterday of the Drone flying into the Engine... quite comical...
I want to see a real test with a drone and a bird of the same weight and speed..

You made a great point at 10:50 about owners breaking the law because they don't know what the law is. Here in the USA, there are laws created by the Feds FAA) and then more laws made by the State and then more rules made by the City and then more rules made by the County. It is VERY hard to know (or find out for that matter) the rules/laws for any particular place you might want to fly. Mostly, the FAA has sole jurisdiction on where you can occupy air space, but the State/City/County have their own special rules about using their land for take off and landing. Finding out the local laws/rules is the hardest part of all. Then there are more rules where a copper can book you for disturbing peace even if you take off and land from private property. WHERE DOES IT STOP???!!!
Great VLOG mate
Cheers
