While everyone else was getting swept away by DayZ's hype and ArmA 3's spectacle... I was experiencing my first true milsim ops, working together with a squad for the first time and being absolutely blown away at the sheer scale and realism of this game.

That was 8 years ago.

Now here I am, a grizzled milsim vet, typically among the most experienced in my squad in whatever game it is I happen to be playing... yet, every time I play Squad, or ArmA 3, or any of the other "ptsd simulators"... my thoughts always wander back to those days... every time I look at my squadmates I see the guys who helped me learn the ropes when I was thirteen. I see the guys I played with as an older teen building confidence and experience... I see the platoons I rolled with in my first clan operations.
And every time I find myself alone, I'm reminded of the battle buddy who always had my back, no matter the time, or the mission... The one guy I did everything with. Every time I fly a chopper, the cockpit feels emptier without his cringy jokes.

Thank you ArmA 2 for the best years of my life... while the rest of the world seems to have forgotten you, I will always remember, and I will always miss those times.
Rest easy old friend, you've earned it.
