In India, we were taught to pronounce everything the British way but as I grew up I ended up watching and engaging with a lot of American content and now I use American accent a lot .

This is really interesting. I've observed that many people that have English as a second language usually have a combination of accents due to various different inputs during their learning period.

I've seen this in myself as well. My first english degree was from a British Institute but my proficiency was from an American Institute. Things that have been taught in early ages have a british flavor(such as spelling- colour, favourite, etc) and things that I've been taught in later ages have a stronger American influence.

I've also picked from movies, shows, articles, research various phrases and words that I sometimes realise create a weird mix between British and American English.

It's really interesting imo.

Both. English is my second language and I never had consistent learning of one kind of English. I learned everything from the internet, so naturally my English is pretty mixed.

You don’t have to learn the American way, you could talk the way that feels most naturally to you and then if someone doesn’t understand it they can put some effort into understanding it

Being an Indian we were a colonised country in the past and the British education system has dominated us since the start, hence our pronunciations are quite British (in this video context) but anyhow we Indians have adapted all the different accents according to our comfort since English has never been our mother tongue.

I personally knew both the different pronunciations and hence can’t agree on what accent I have but growing up in schools we have learnt British pronunciation or for that matter ‘’Indian English’’

I kinda do a weird mix of both since I’ve had different english teachers throughout the years who each preferred different pronounciations 💀

My whole life I’m trying to learn British English but, after each of these videos I can’t to part with the thought that American English is already somehow sitting deep inside in my head therefore even if I know every difference between any exceptions I still do American one.

I think everyone should pronounce the way you grew up with in any language- it's part of your personality and most times rather charming. Be proud of who you are and don't try to fit in..

Interesting for this American. Fun to watch also. May I inquire as to what the poster's original language is? She does not evidence any trace of foreign accent.
I lived off and on during a dozen years in southern Spain's Costa del Sol where I owned properties on the seacoast, and I enjoyed interactions with very many from the British Isles there who make up a large percentage of residents and tourists in Malaga province.
The variations of language and pronunciation both in Spanish and English compared to the Americas were interesting to note. I had never heard of these examples but
had encountered many others.
I enjoy these posts from linguamarina!

I say both, the reason for that is that I learned English about 2 years ago. I actually learned by watching YouTube videos and reading fanfictions. Since the creators I watched (dsmp and mcyt) were both British and American I began learning both. I am pretty okay at English now and I think I might actually have a high vocabulary, but it's still confusing sometimes.
The fanfictions are also from all over the world and I'm even writing my own!
