Cool! I'm the kid in the red shirt that gets killed. My Brother (Lonny) was the shooter, lol. Our cousin Kim is the little girl. My Dad (Jack Bingle) shot this film in 1963 and won several awards. My cousins and friends were the outlaws in the field. I am happy to report that we're all still alive and well (Dad is 84). Great song Lissie! I own a nice recording studio in SC. Lissie’s initial inspiration for writing “Don’t You Give Up On Me” was her relationship with someone different from her, according to her Spotify commentary on the track:

I have a lot of unhealthy habits, basically … I was with someone who was very healthy and athletic. At first, I kind of felt like it was just me sort of with this relationship, like, “I’ll try to get better; I’ll try to make better decisions; I’ll try to be healthier.” So basically, I felt like I was trying to be better for another person.

I think I’m a very kind of light and cheerful person … but I have a serious dark side as well. there’s a part of me that can go to this dark place or be kind of self-destructive, and so it’s sort of addressing that in terms of another person.

The song then took a turn toward the spiritual, addressing her relationship both with God and with the elements, citing the chorus lyric “As I dive into the dark / Slip into the endless sea” as an example of her fighting to overcome her personal struggles:

But then the further I got in writing the song, it was more about my relationship to my spirituality, to God, even. I felt like I didn’t want my light to go out. I feel like I have all this energy and stuff I want to offer to the people in my life – I always felt like I have this fire in me, and there are times where I feel like it dims. In this case, it was kind of a plea to the universe or God of, like, “don’t abandon me, don’t give up on me. I’m trying!”

Lissie is like a mythological creature here the states... we hear her but never get to see her :-( I did get to see her back in the heartland but moved and now she doesn't tour in our state. I'm not craving to move to the cold UK or Scandinavian countries... but damn am I jealous!
