Today I am unboxing MSCHF's brand new Drop, the Dead Startup Toys. Five companies who raised a ridiculous amount of money that all failed and ended up in the startup graveyard. RIP!

Honestly the Juicero is kinda the ultimate unnecessary invention

I love it, a set of figurines of products that is as useful as each of the featured products.

I'm trying to act smart here, but I don't understand what Venture Capital funding is...

New idea for an unnecessary invention: a 500 dollar machine that squeezes fruit and pours the juice in those plastic Juicero packets - so the 700 dollar Juicero can squeeze the juice out again.

I like how the One Laptop Per Child was trying to solve a problem that wouldn't exist in a few short years due to the iPhone. Yeah phones do not replace computers, but for a kid you just spend a little extra to get them a smartphone. They basically do the exact same things they would have done on a laptop but now you can call them on it and it's always with them. And with the pace of electronics, it's pointless bringing out something so cheap because you can buy an old laptop for 200 that's leaps ahead of anything you could make on that kind of budget.

Ah yes Juicero, the bag squeezing machine

I remember the juicer (The first one), I saw a YouTube video about it. You HAD to connect it to the wifi or it wouldn't work and it had to download a huge file before you could use it.

This is neat. Also a great example why you shouldn't put money into things that haven't even been made yet.

I disagree on the OLPC project. I'm from Uruguay and thanks to it, a whole generation of school students were able to get their hands on a computer. In many cases, these laptops were the only computer on their homes (i'm talking back to 2007 where there weren't smartphones around). Nowadays Uruguay is the most "digitalized" country in latin america and 42nd in the whole world beating some of the "first world" countries.

I distinctly remember wanting to get a Jibo when I was 7 or 8.

The amount of shade in this video is truly astonishing. I love it. 😂

My in laws had a Jibo, it was cute, and useless unfortunately. It’s still in a little spot in their living room in case he comes back to life

I backed OLPC, and while it did ultimately fail, I do admire what they tried to do. And unlike some of those others, they did actually make them, and ship them to 3rd world countries, but at a smaller scale then they originally planned.

Having used the laptop myself, there were a lot of things wrong with it, most prominently a shitty trackpad and screen.

In the end, it was worse than a netbook, and not much cheaper.
