There is a procedure referred to as lithotripsy which is used to break kidney stones into smaller sizes using sound waves, not sure if this technology is used for gall bladder stones anywhere and if so why not?

What is the short acting anesthesia your team uses compared to the general anesthesia used elsewhere? My Gallbladder is inflamed and I have big stones (up to 3 CM wide). They want to take it out, but I'm worried about general anesthesia because I have refractory asthma and COPD. My pain is also in my chest and left shoulder and is chronic in addition to the acute episodes. This worries me that my gallbladder is not the culrpit for my symptoms.

Asymptomatic gallstone does not need to be operated. If symptoms are there then only you should get it operated. The risk benefit calculations are as follows: Suppose out of 10, 000 patients with asymptomatic stones, 200 patients will develop acute complications over 10 years with a death rate of 2, 5% (5 patients) and 100 will develop acute pancreatitis with a 10% death rate (10 patients). Thus, 15 patients will die from gallstone complications. If all 10, 000 had surgery, between 10 to 50 would die from complication of the surgery. The follow up deaths are spread over 10 years, whereas the operative deaths would occur immediately.
