We are all eager for the time when we will not be worried about the risks of the Coronavirus. When will that time come? Watch this video to learn the science behind Herd Immunity and the role of vaccines in achieving it, and what to do to stay safe until that time comes.

A huge thanks goes to Dr. Eric Wilson and Julianne Grose for their research and scientific expertise in creating this video as well as Forrest Stull and Jaren Sloan with animation and Olivia Young with voice acting.

In reading through the comments I feel it necessary to point out a few things.
First, this video DOES NOT compare corona virus to small pox or polio. This video uses small pox, and polio virus as examples of viral diseases for which effective vaccines were produced. Yes, the small pox vaccine is not currently used. This vaccine is not used because it was so effective that small pox was eradicated from the earth.

Nutrition is clearly important, good nutrition is important to good immunity. However, science has repeatedly shown that building a protective immune response (antigen specific T cells and antigen specific antibodies) is dependent on being exposed to some form of the pathogen (vaccine or live infection). Nutrition is essential, it is not a cure all. Regardless of nutritional status, people get sick and die of diseases.

My question is this: given that other coronaviruses (most notably the common cold) have yet to have effective vaccines developed, what makes us so confident that this virus won't mutate in such a way as to render whatever vaccines we develop impotent?

I recognize that COVID-19 is not the common cold, of course, but since they are the same, general family of viruses, might it not be wise to not put too much hope solely on a vaccine?

New York, Paris, London, and Provo. There’s a reason it’s funny. Measles, Polio, Smallpox, and COVID-19. Same thing. Sorry, your stretch with this comparison discredits your entire argument. Too bad, the animation was so cute.

When will someone start talking about building immunity by talking about nutrition and how bad most of the nutrition is in America. One suggestion I hear from many doctors is to increase your intake of Vitamin D. That's part of nutrition. Then perhaps we need to pay more attention to the Word of Wisdom. Beyond tobacco, alcohol, coffee, and tea, most Latter-day Saints don't pay much attention to the Word of Wisdom when it says 'eat meat sparingly.' Seventh Day Adventists do and they have a better track record with health concerns than we do. Eating meat sparingly has huge health benefits. When it comes to vaccines, consider that the US government has paid out more than 3 billion bucks because of problems from vaccines. There are several doctors that have treated patients in the U.S. with Covid and been highly successful. I trust them much more than I do some vaccine and yet they seem to be shut down by politicians.

The title of this video implies some kind of time-line for protection, and completely fails to deliver on that. Instead of outlining the steps we need to pass through before returning to normal, it talks about why we should continue to do what we've been doing. It's an advertisement for the status quo, not a scientific look at how much longer we've got to put up with over the top restrictions. Very disappointed.
