As Bob Dylan said, "Gordon Lightfoot went his entire life never having written a bad song."

This is the song he wrote after his divorce. All the failure, all the pain. We’ve lost one of our greatest song writers, music, lyrics and voice.

The saddest and most beautiful melodic song about a failed marriage. The 🎻 VIOLINS were a perfect touch. REST IN PEACE GORDON🙏

I remember this song from my mother playing this record when I was a small child. RIP to my mother and Gordon Lightfoot. Both passed away on the same day May 1st 2023.

Gordon Lightfoot is a Canadian legend & one of the best singer songwriters. He has had many hits through his long career such as "Early Morning Rain", "Steel Rail Blues", "Ribbon Of Darkness", "Sundown", "Carefree Highway", "Rainy Day People", "Canadian Railroad Trilogy", "Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" & many more. I saw him in concert once.

Dear Mr. Lightfoot: I never did get to meet you or go to a full concert of yours, but you were my first songwriting hero. And now...farewell to a legend. But we will always have your music!

Just imagine being his ex-wife, the woman he wrote this about, hearing this for the first time. Astonishingly beautiful. RIP Gordon.

Gordon passed on May 1st, 2023 at the age of 84. He left a legacy of hundreds of songs for fans, now and in the future. This song is a masterpiece in my estimation. The poetry of the bittersweet lyric coupled with Gordon's vibrant voice and a superb arrangement make it so. One of his very best. Thanks, Gord, for the music and memories.

From the first guitar note you know this is
a masterpiece. From the 1970 album Sit Down Young Stranger, later renamed " If You Could Read My Mind", this is about Gordon's marriage breakup. This is quintessential Gordon, beautiful story teller voice and a first class accompaniment. You need to please invest your time in more Gordon.
Sundown
Early Morning Rain
Carefree Highway
Black Day in July
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Glad you loved it Craig. Memories are precious. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Mr Lightfoot is a genius! I can't remember a single one of his songs that wasn't full of wonderful vocals and brilliant lyrics. Thank you for adding him to your list of artists :)

Gordon was definitely our Canadian treasure. This song brings back so many memories. He wrote this during or just after his divorce. His voice is so mellow and his songwriting is perfection. He'll be missed.❤❤❤❤

He died on May 1st unfortunately. I was shared this music by my mother after she remembered sitting in a chair in Japan listening to her dads records of Gordon. I was really grateful as I was really into Glen Campbell. Sundown and this song became very special to me as they were special to my mother.
