Brian: "I'd like to thank myself, for sponsoring myself"

Well in my opinion you can't have very strict refereeing on an event like this. All the technical stuff like making sure everyone has their feet in exactly the right spot and checking if a competitors butt isn't one milimeter of the seat, is killing the flow of this whole event.

From the reaction of the contestants, I think this event needs to be reevaluated before next year. There seems to be way too much nitpicking in the setup. Most of the contests, you just need to move the weight, but on this one, they are measuring foot placement and angle and that just seems like too much nitpicking.

I feel like lifting the car was a great spectacle of strength, as it should be for this competition. But I also think the apparatus could have been designed a bit better, and the rules were a bit tedious and nitpicky for the event to flow well.

These videos on your channel thanking your sponsors is an awesome idea! You and your wife are inspirational for me Mr. Shaw!

Man that contraption is scary looking. I've never seen an event where so many struggled

I can see why there was some controversy on this one. The reffing was too strict on this one and not to mention, it looked like the competitors were confused on what was allowed and not? I think as long as their back is against the seat and they're fully seated, press however you like with your legs. If you want to go wider for less range of motion, cool but there's a trade off. Leave it up to the competitors to decide that bit.

Car leg press wasn't a good event as there was too much scope for injury and the looks like they went overboard with the rules. Great overall show though. Brian is a great ambassador for the sport of strongman.

Unfortunately, I don't think this was Brian's best idea. Nobody really seemed to be either on board with it, nor on the same page with the scoring and operational aspects of it.

Love the Shaw classic but I think they should drop this lift.

I wanted this to work so bad, but it seems like one of those implements that if you dont have it to train with or you dont get thorough practice with it, it becomes dangerous. Still such a amazing piece and had me tuning in just to see it. It's probably that way with all equipment, Like the first time someone uses atlas stones.

Damn my knees left the chat just by watching this

Some were saying Brian had some crazy unfair advantage, but just look at Mitch Hooper and Kevin kicking butt on it.. Brian had the power and flexibility for this.

Looked good on paper but this event was a bust in the end.

Unfortunately, I think Shaw’s head was a little too into this lift. All the measuring, angles & refereeing seemed to make it impossible for the athletes (and viewers) to know what to do with this lift… not everything has to be so technical. Like Pa O’Dwyers impression of Shaw, “I practiced with a black dumbbell, and I just think it’d be unfair if we didn’t use the exact same implement in competition. The paint density does have an impact on calibration.” 😅

There's a good balance between excessive nit-picking and playing it by ear. I think this is closer to nit-picking, but isn't necessarily a bad thing. If I were running an event like this, I'd be a little less so, but not so much that it was rife with debate on whether or not so-and-so should have won or lost based on the lack of judge guidance. You know if this was too willy-nilly, people would complain about that, too.
Good to see my relative Jerry Pritchett at the Shaw Classic.

It would be cool to get a mic near them to hear them working during their sets.
If you don’t want it necessarily going out live, maybe for some compilations or BTS stuff

This event was so epic to watch! We just bought our tickets for next year! Can’t wait!!

The rule was, I believe, to keep the hands on the handles by the hip. Given that some athletes are used to leg-pressing in a different manner, there was some argument between them and the judges
