Rescue Heroes Pilot: 'Lava Alarm'

Apparently this show had a pilot that was a lot different to it's final design. And it appeared there was a YT video of this a few years back, but it looks like it got deleted. So, as someone who was a HUGE fan of this show (watched it everyday on Qubo back in 2012/13), I had to do what I had to do.

Oh man, I used to watch this show all the dang time. I had the DVD boxset of the first season, and I remember how it used to come on once a week on Kids' WB. You never came between me and the TV when it did.

I've actually never seen this pilot before all the way through, I had heard of it but just never took the time to sit down and watch. It's interesting how in the opening, they show the names of every character, even the minor ones. The actual series only showed the major ones. Also, Comet makes an appearance here; I don't think he showed up until the heavily retooled second season in the actual show.

It's actually a pretty solid pilot; it's a bit strange not having the "think like a Rescue Hero" closing, but overall it's pretty close to what the actual show became. They even had a cold opening where they have a more minor, unrelated rescue before we hit the actual plot. Voice acting's a bit subpar, but I guess that's not too surprising. Roger sounds really weird here.

I think I may still have the VHS Case for this pilot episode that my parents got from a garage sale when I was a kid. Granted whatever jerk they bought it from put the VHS for El Nino in there instead.

I used to have this VHS too. Some parts hold up ok, others not so much, and while I do like some of the music, it would've been better if we didn't hear someone say "Rescue Heroes" every few seconds at some parts! Even the theme song could have been better without the remix, but at least the guitar in there is pretty cool.

I wish that the people making Rescue Heroes actually did more research on emergency preparedness and disaster response, as well as engaging critical race theory with feminist lenses in their storyplots, but nevertheless, this was my childhood and I loved Rescue Heroes as a kid. I'm not sure if I saw this episode or not.
