Dave is the type of player to bring out the beautiful versatility of the instrument that is the guitar. Feedback is the amplified sound of a guitar breathing.

That feedback was art and spoke for itself. Talk about transporting the listener to another place, another time, or even another world.

I'm sold!!! I have tried to avoid feedback for years but you are right. It can be beautiful. I love Hendrix when he did that sort of thing.

Feedback works really well for a lot of the professional guitarists that I like, you included ✅.

You're so right. Electric guitars love to sound loud, wild and alive. We should ask them more often. :)

Legends say Gilmour's lead tone was so loud, the engineer would take it out of the PA during solos.

Thanks Dave. Not sure if you've heard of these pieces but they all use feedback creatively:
1. Ogre Battle by Queen when they used to play it live - really eerie sounds by Brian May;
2. Dark Eyed Tango by Al Di Meola - Al sets his Les Paul up on mid pickup position, rolls the volume back but brings it up again to get a violin-like sustain
3. The 4.15 Bradford Executive by Allan Holdsworth - here Allan uses a swell pedal and feedback to get a Saxophone-like, rich, overdrive.
I also heard how a lot of the greats would put an X on the stage floor in gaffer tape to mark where the feedback sweet spot was.

One of the most educational videos I've seen on UT with regard to electric guitar technique. Well done you, Dave, and you were totally positive about it too; giving very credible examples of those that use feedback in a controlled way. It scares the Sh1t outta me but I knew it could be tamed and you say learn to tame it and control it - spot on. Cheers mate.

Now and then I hear what sounds like Scottish influences in your playing. I was a fan of Big Country back in the 80s. I know I'm the odd subscriber.

Dave, this a great tutorial. Amps make noise and learning how to use it to an advantage is key. Noise gates are useful if you have hum coming from the electrics in the place or home you play most times. That also depends on what sound you want in the end result. I have my noise gate right after my tuner on my board to control what goes in from the start. Clean, no noise than let it rip with the gain and what the amp and your pedals gives you. I have a Pure Boost pedal at the end of the chain to go into the amp to tweak if needed. Every amp is different, and what pedals used will feedback accordingly. You were getting some great sounds there Dave! Cheers

When instruments are part of the band in their own right. I needed your words, I believe this will work for me too now, alway got frightened away before.

Great video Dave. Gotta mention Bernie Tormé, a hugely underrated guitarist who was also a master of feedback.

That was surely the ultimate lesson of feedback, very informative, even for amateur feedback afficianardo

I love feedback. It is a little hard to start playing with feedback for me because it makes me flinch a little like I did something wrong, and want to turn down the volume, but once I get over that it is fun to play with, it is like have infinite sustain.

Absolutely.💯 I know that they are the same in Physics but Oscillation and Feedback are different things to my ears. Controlled feedback is fabulous and almost keeps me from playing my acoustics as often.🤷🏼‍♂️ Keep doing what you love. Cheers / Slainte.
