There's a reason why Noctua gets SO MUCH RESPECT from tech reviewers. They don't mess around. They don't do bullshit marketing. They make extremely high quality products, with excellent warranties, and excellent customer service. They are an honest company, with a very, very unusually high level of integrity. They take pride in making the best products for their customers, and in giving them good customer service and support. They will even provide some degree of customer service and support for products which are PAST their warranties. Noctua fans are often pretty expensive, but chances are that they will actually eventually end up saving you money because of how ridiculously long they last, but they also move more air and make less noise, and even use less power as well. It took me a long time to realize that Noctua stuff is totally worth the price. It started with a CPU cooler that I bought at a discounted price, but today, my PC has four Noctua case fans in it, and I always recommend Noctua to people whenever I'm helping them to put together a PC. That's not to say that there aren't some other good case fan brands or cooler brands, but Noctua keeps ending up being the best option whenever I try to look into what the best fan for a given job is.

I have been using an NH-L12 for the past 8 years or so, and after upgrading from an AM3, to an AM4 motherboard, I found out that I could get a FREE mounting adapter upgrade kit sent to me for no charge at all, directly from Germany to Canada, and it was already past its 6 year warranty at this point in time. It's about 9 years old now, and the same fans are running as good as the day I got it. Noctua still updates information for their older model coolers that are past warranty, such as lists which give you a good idea of how good of a job your old cooler will do at cooling a given modern CPU.

Personally, I don't tend to go for high-end CPUs, so my cooler has been overkill for all of the AM4 CPUs I've had so far, but that just means that it's been extra quiet :)

Bought Noctua D14 in late 2009. It has been running 24/7 since then. Probably the best purchase of my life. Because it has kept my CPU cooler now close to 5000 days 120k hours, if the lower temps dropped power consumption even 1W on average it's 120KWh. And I would assume it has done much more than that. Also the X58 board is alive after running this whole time. First as my main rig and then as my server. Cool air running over VRM and RAM certainly helps.

Noctua are the definition of doing things properly. Designing for quality and not disposability. An old Engineering teacher I once had said it best; "The proper mentality is that there is no such thing as "overengineered"; there is doing it correctly, and there is everything else.".

I bought the Be Quiet Silent Wings Pro 4 fans for my PC because of high performance, sleek look (and at the time, they had more in stock), but let's be honest, only a fool would deny Noctua's performance. NH-D15 didn't become a decade's benchmark for air coolers for no reason. I can't help but remember what's probably the best and shortest review of Noctua products: "The fact that they're so ugly and people still buy them, that's how you know they're really good."

This is a really awesome interview! The Noctua guy is exactly the type of person who you would want designing your fans.

Noctua fans and coolers are definitely worth it, every time I decided to save a few bucks by going with other brands I always ended up regretting it in the long run.

I've never heard of a Noctua product fail. Been using my NH-D14 since 2012 (currently on 10850k). We really do need more companies like them in todays world.

What it means to me, that guys were creating new 140mm nearly every year. And if they would just go with sale and marketing they would be able to sell them to consumers every year and just make money, instead they are honest with us and try not just to create new "generic fancy rgb" fan put to really create this true rpoduct that will standout in terms of performance. That is just another level. Thank you so much for hard work and honesty to end user.

When he said there's further room for improvement, the first thing that comes to mind for me is they could dive into fans that are thicker than 25mm.

One area that hasn’t been explored yet is attempting to match the fin density with the pressure/airflow characteristics of the fan across the entire 2-D cross-section of the fan. We know the airflow and pressure is highest at the perimeter of the fan and lowest at the center. While the idea of a dead zone may be outdated, the concept of lower airflow in that area is still valid. Having higher density of fins at the edges of the cooler and lower density of fins where the center of the fan is would result in more heat being dumped - and subsequently dissipated - exactly where the fan is most capable of dealing with that heat.

The other thing they could do as others have mentioned is increase the depth of the fans beyond 25mm. While there are potential clearance issues with radiators and case fans that would limit the desirability of thicker fans, there’s a ton of room to work with above the motherboard once the fans have cleared the memory sticks. There’s no reason a 50mm thick fan on a tower cooler wouldn’t be just as compatible as a 25mm fan in 99% of cases. And with thicker fans comes lower rpm at the same pressure-volume, and that means quieter operation and less wear on the motor.

Jesus Christ, Noctua, I know product engineering and manufacturing is hard but going to such lengths for a fan...Mad props!

This video is why I LOVE Noctua gear. As other folks have mentioned, I have multiple Noctua fans or heatsinks well past their 6yr warranty and still crushing it.

Noctua all day every day! Running a D15S + 3 A12x25 in one setup and a U12S chromax with 5 S12A chromax in the other setup.

Being running my 140 and 120mm fans since I guess 2012 they still run great on all rads and cases I've build them in. Great stuff from Noctua I only go with them in all my builds and PC's I run today.

8 of 9 of my PCs run Noctua coolers. After finally upgrading my Sandybridge 2700k in 2019 I needed to replace a quality Megahalems cooler that no longer supported new sockets. Went with a new U14S for long term compatibility. I’ve since bought 7 new, open box or used Noctua coolers for other systems. My favorite air coolers for sure and I only bought the first U14S at full retail prices. The other 7 were like 50-70% off.

NH-U14S w/ dual fans $90 (retail new w/ 2nd fan purchase)
NH-D15 w/ Chromax Black dual fans with white covers $80
NH-D15 w/ Chromax Black dual fans $50
NH-D15 w/dual fans $40
NH-D15 w/ dual fans $40
NH-U14S w/ dual fans $30
NH-D9L w/ single fan $20
NH-U9S w/ dual fans $20

The Hills are alive with the sound of Noctua. I just wish they never cancelled their desk fan project. I would have loved to have owned that too.
