Importing routes for your RIDER from your computer using USB

This video shows you how to transfer routes and tracks using USB from your computer to your RIDER 40/42 or RIDER 400/410/420/450.
You can import .GPX and .ITN files to use on your Rider. ITN files are TomTom itinerary files.

OK, this works with the 550 as far as it goes. The problem is, once you have said you are "Done" importing, your PC loses access to the TomTom's root directory for some reason, so if you need to go back and import a new route onto the TomTom, you apparently have to restart the TomTom before the PC will show it as a drive again. Does anyone know a way to re-establish the PC's access to the TomTom as a drive without having to restart the TomTom?
While we are on the subject, WHY doesn't MyDrive handle TomTom Itinerary (.itn) files???? That's just stupid. I mean seriously! TomTom, WTH???

Quite a poor guide. Doesn't even tell you the very important fact, that you have to SAVE the .gpx file to your PC. Which is done when you completed a route, you have to press "Share route". Then paste that file into the connected device internal storage. Neither does the MyDrive browser tell you have to save a file via the cable.

This bears no resemblance to what happened on my TomTom Rider 500 when connecting to my PC. And after a recent update, I cannot upload a single map. I have the correct cable and have been using MRA Routeplanner. TomTom offer no support and rely on forums like this to resolve problems.
